The Town of Mumbey

Mumbey is a small town just beyond the city, known for its long, uneasy history and its reputation as one of the most haunted places in the country. Founded centuries ago, it carries the weight of old stories, strange events, and things left unresolved.

The town exists beneath a constant moonlit sky, where the line between day and night feels blurred. Time moves differently here, giving Mumbey a dreamlike, slightly unreal quality.

For Tristan, arriving in Mumbey marks a major shift. It is not a place of calm or comfort at first, but one filled with questions and unease. Ghosts and unexplained occurrences are woven into everyday life, mirroring Tristan’s own feelings of loss, change, and uncertainty.

In ghostboy World, Mumbey is not simply a setting, but a reflection of emotional experience. It is a town shaped by memory and atmosphere, where the supernatural and the emotional exist side by side. Every street, building, and shadow feels as though it holds a story — waiting to be uncovered when the time is right.

Tristan's House

Tristan’s house towers above Mumbey, tall and rickety, with a sharply tiled roof that marks it as unmistakable. Its angled walls and shadowed corners give it a slightly eerie, distinctive silhouette — a house that seems both part of the town and entirely its own. Empty for years before Tristan and his mother arrived, it still carries a lingering sense of abandonment. At the back, the garden stretches toward Bramble Woods, where a broken fence hints at the mysteries and stories waiting just beyond, with an old, rusty caravan resting under the trees at the bottom of the garden.

The Caravan
Also known as the Scary Caravan

Rusty, weather-worn, and small, the caravan sits at the far end of Tristan’s garden. Jonathan quickly dubs it the “Scary Caravan,” and the name sticks — though to Tristan, it becomes something entirely different. Inside, it transforms into a refuge filled with books, drawings, and his treasured journal.

The caravan represents safety, imagination, and connection — a private place where friendships deepen, adventures are planned, and ideas take shape. It is also where Tristan experiences his first haunting in Mumbey, visited by the ghost of a little girl named Alice, marking the beginning of everything that follows.

Bramble Woods

Dark, tangled, and steeped in uneasy silence, Bramble Woods lies just beyond the broken fence at the back of Tristan’s garden. Paths twist and disappear, and locals speak of the woods in whispers. It is here that the ghost of Alice lingers, tied to a hidden well deep among the trees, alongside other stories that few dare to tell aloud.

The High Street

Mumbey’s High Street is a short cobbled road lined with independent shops, stretching from the bridge over the River Abby to the town square. At its centre sits the curiosity shop — a place where strange objects, half-forgotten stories, and quiet secrets seem to gather, waiting for the right moment to be uncovered.

Riverside School

Old and slightly worn, Riverside School carries the familiar mix of everyday life and unease. Its most infamous legend is Room 13, avoided by students and even some teachers. Beneath ordinary lessons and corridors, the school hums with unanswered questions, reminding the children that in Mumbey, even the most familiar places can hide something waiting to be discovered.

The Moon

Though not a location, the moon plays a vital role within the ghostboy World universe and the town of Mumbey. It is always present, hanging low and enormous in the sky, visible both day and night, erasing the clear divide between them. Beneath its constant glow, Mumbey feels slightly out of step with time, as though the world has shifted just enough for strange things to slip through. Some believe the moon holds mystical power, influencing moods, memories, and the thin veil between the living and the dead. Whether it protects the town or quietly governs it is unknown, but its presence is woven into every part of Mumbey — the streets, the woods, the ghosts, and the people — ensuring that nothing truly escapes its watchful gaze.
